Community Guidelines

A few simple rules to keep our community fun, friendly, and slightly quirky.

Be Respectful

Treat others the way you'd want to be treated. Disagree with ideas, not people. Remember, there's a real human behind each username - even that person who thinks a 1980s plastic toy is a "rare antique."

Do This

"I appreciate your perspective, but I've found different results when restoring brass items."

Not This

"Only an AMATEUR would use that technique! You clearly don't know what you're doing."

No Spam or Excessive Self-Promotion

We get it, you're excited about your listings. But our community isn't just a billboard. Share your items when relevant to the discussion, not in every single thread. Think "helpful community member who happens to sell stuff" not "used car salesman on their last day."

Do This

"To answer your question about mid-century lamps: I restored one last month [shares photo]. I actually have a similar one in my shop if you're looking."

Not This

"FLASH SALE!!! Check out my 15 new listings! 20% OFF TODAY ONLY! [Links to 5 different items]"

Keep It Fun & Safe

We're here to celebrate vintage treasures, not to debate politics or share personal information. Avoid controversial topics, keep personal details private, and remember: humor is welcome, but not at someone else's expense.

Do This

"My cat knocked over my antique glass display last night. Anyone know a good glass repair shop in the Chicago area?"

Not This

"Here's my home address and phone number. Call me anytime about the antiques I'm selling, especially when I'm home alone between 11pm-6am."

The "Grandma's Attic" Rule

If you wouldn't show it to your grandma (or wouldn't want to explain it to a 5-year-old), it probably doesn't belong here. This isn't the dark web - we're just a bunch of people excited about old stuff.

Do This

"Found this interesting toy from the 1950s. It might be missing some pieces but still works!"

Not This

"Found this *questionable adult item* at an estate sale. Previous owner must have been WILD! [posts inappropriate image]"
